Israel and Hamas Ceasefire

After over a year of Israel’s bombing campaign on the Gaza Strip, January 17th, 2025 marked the day that Israel and Hamas reached a ceasefire agreement. The deal encompassed halting the bombing, and exchanging 33 Israeli hostages for around 2,000 Palestinian hostages, which include women and children.

It would also warrant for Israel to allow humanitarian aid trucks to deliver essential food and supplies to Gaza and would allow for wounded Palestinians to exit through the Rafah crossing for treatment.

The ceasefire deal which took effect on January 19, 2025, caused many Palestinians to celebrate an end to the relentless bombing and genocidal tactics put in place by the Israeli government.

Since the ceasefire deal, however, Israel has turned its attention to destroying Jenin, a city in the West Bank of Palestine. Israel has launched a major military operation on the city, through rampages, air raids and bombings and have seized civilians sheltering in the Jenin Refugee Camp.

These operations being undertaken by the Israeli government are a reflection of the growing trend in building Israeli settlements on Palestinian land and the years of apartheid and occupation being upheld by their government.
